Today was the first of 2 SuperTours in Minneapolis (on the same courses which will host the 2011 JO’s). The courses here are all about lots of turns, short steep hills, fast rutted off-camber downhill corners, and transitions in general.
Today’s race was a 10k skate in freezing rain„ which actually let up for most of the men’s race (at least for the A-seed). My legs were a little stiff and I was a bit tired from travel and an all-out 5k skate time trial I did in Leavenworth WA on Wednesday with a few locals on their lit trails there. But overall it was not a bad day. While some top US skiers were missing from the field, there was still a strong contingent of those as well as some good Canadians and of course all the college skiers in the midwest and UAF (Fairbanks) which always races the midwest college races. So it’s hard to say exactly how my race today would have stacked up against my previous best SuperTour distance races, but 12th (10th American) is technically my best-ever SuperTour distance result.
Last weekend I finished 13th (8th American) in the 15k classic, which topped my previous PR of 14th as far as distance SuperTour races go…and today 12th, so here’s hoping for 11th or better in tomorrow’s 15k classic mass-start! (If all goes well, maybe I can skip a few places and go straight into my first top-10…waxing will be tricky but I will give the race my best effort no matter what!)
